I am considering becoming an over-the-road driver for one of the national trucking companies. I don't have any particular company in mind at this time, but I would really like to hear from you professional drivers with any advice you can give me.I have been driving a concrete mixer truck for ten years but due very slow buisness, was recently laid off.

I'd look into these companies-

Knight Transportation- they have a great rep with drivers, plus they drive nice equipment.

CFI- CFI pays a detention pay in case a shipper delays you, which, any driver can tell you does happen, and you'll usually wait all day. So you make money whether you drive or not, Usually charging customers detention fee's makes the shipper move faster which gets you more miles.

Heartland Express- Heartland has one of the highest pay scales of national companies, and they have a good reputation among drivers.

If you need training information, theres some on this site here:

I'd stay away from CR England, Swift, Prime, JB Hunt, Werner, and Stevens Transport, These companies have many complaints, and do not have a very good reputation with drivers.

I was just accepted to Cr England training school and after reading this I am curious to know why CR England has such a bad rep with drivers, should I just do the training and leave after I get one year of over the road driving or would it be best to find some other training school?
