I've been a Surg Tech for well over 30 years. It has always been a well established concept that a Surg Tech may hold retractors but legally may not place them as that is the responsibility of the surgeon. My current hospital is challenging this concept as it relates to "bite blocks" used during endoscopic procedures. Do any of you have an actual legal reference stating that Surg Techs must not place retractors? Thanks.
