How did you get your start doing seamstress work, and what career moves did you make to get to your current position?

Do you need a particular educational background?

My minister of music came to me and told me of a dream he had. A sister at church who made handerchiefs had just passed. He told me that she came to him in this dream and told him I needed to make the 'hankies' now. I told him she lied to you. I didn't have a needle and thread, let alone a sewing machine. He said, "you have to do this! I saw you with your own business! Well, he kept on me about it, until I prayed about. I told GOD, if you want me to do this, then I want a sewing machine with all those different stitches on it. I was unemployed at the time and cleaned houses for a living. As I was cleaning, putting something in the closet, I saw a sewing machine. When I said what I saw, the little old lady said, "take it home." I said, "no mamam!" She said, " I said take it home and there's some material there too. Take it all home with you". So I did.

I'm a deaconess at my church and we were having new uniforms dedicated. I really wanted to do something for all of the deaconess, but didn't have any money. I went to church the following Sunday and after service, I told my mother what I wanted to do. Well as soon as I said it, a sister walk in the front door of the church, came up to me and said, "the LORD told her to sow into what I was doing." She took me shopping and bought everthing I needed.

In the interm of me buying material for hankies, the LORD would tell me to buy this material and buy this pattern. I asked GOD, "why am I buying all this stuff? Finally, on Martin Luther Kings birthday in 2003, the LORD woke me up early and said, "get up and get that material and that pattern and make that suit. " I sat up on the side of my bed and asked, "who are you talking to." He said again, "get up and make the suit." I said, "I can't!" The LORD told me,"THAT I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH HIM THAT STRENGHTENS ME1. I've been sewing every since.

I am a home seamstress. I pretty much sew for myself and my daughter. I am presently looking for work in an office, preferably Medical Receptionist. But something is telling me to keep on sewing, even though I don't see any money in it. Maybe the Lord is telling me to sew, because I've been seeking employment for over a year, and it just hasn't happened. I want to keep the faith, even though it looks like I'll never get a job. I know the Lord will never forsake me and will supply my needs. I'm bored at home every day, I want to be doing something worthwhile. Any suggestions?

I started sewing in High-school. I don't have a degeee. I follow patterns well and I also create some. I think I do good work. I could use a lot of professional pointers, though.

My mother and Aunts are all professional seamstresses and I learned from them. I have a degree in Business Mgt. I didn't get serious about sewing until 2 years ago, when I gave birth to my daughter. She became my inspiration. I started an online business and sell a few things of ebay, but not enough to help make ends meet. I too have been looking for work but my current location has me trapped. My husband's job transferred us here :-( And there are not enough jobs. I would love a seamstress job. If anyone knows of anyone looking send them my way! They can contact me through my website and look at my work.
