well i have not tried this before but i there is always an alternative in every thing so i would need more eperienced

Most sat receivers have a signal strength meter in the menus. If it is DirecTV you go into the menu, then settings, then look for SAT or Signal... each receiver is different. You should find a button called "View Signal Strength". When you have the meter on the screen it should beep at you slowly or fast depending on the signal strength. If no sound is heard, have someone stand there and watch. Make sure the dish is mounted plumb and level, if you are using a standard dish without more than one LMB Feedhorn you only need to worry about elevation, set it where you are instructed to set it, remember that on DirecTV dishes the elevation is indicated by the EDGE of the metal piece NOT the bolt itself (look for a white or red paint mark on the metal showing inside the groove). Start with the dish pointing to the west and slowly rotate it south then toward the east. This will swipe through the area where the satellite should be visible to the antenna. At some point the signal meter should beep faster/louder and the meter jump upward. When this happens move past the point where you are still getting signal and then bring it back very slowly until you get the best signal you can. On a clear day you should get above 85%, in Denver signals of 90-95% are common, but in other areas with less elevation and more moisture in the air signals are usually around 80-90%. If you are unable to get any signal or a signal over 75-80% then your elevation is incorrect. Double check that the mast is plumb with a small level and double check the elevation reading on the side of the dish. If you are getting signal but not strong enough, loosen the elevation on the dish and slowly move it up and down to see if the signal strength increases with more or less elevation. Once you have the best signal you can, tighten the bolts down so that the dish does not move in the wind. Hope this is helpful. |
