Hi Jay, some of the information I found on the internet.And some I got from just being determined to want to learn how to move freight.I don't want to knock the seminars or schools but just realize they can only teach you so much.After doing this for 5 years,there is one thing I do know and that is that the money you fork out for the seminar is money you could be using to get yourself set up to be an agent.Trust me when I say your wasting your money. send me an e-mail.tltlogistics@centurytel.net

Hey Terry, I was literally about to sign up for on of these online training courses but decided to keep surfing to make sure I could not find a better price for it. Then I ran across your blog. Any free info you could provide me with would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience in this industry but was told about it by someone and it seems like something I would be interested in getting into. Any suggestion you could offer would really be helpful. I can tell just from the research that I have done today that there are lots of people asking you to pay for courses that may not be worth the money. thanks so much!! Milika

My son has been driving truck for a long time and in the last 2 years has started his own business with his own trucks. My husband has joined him in driving and I thought maybe I could be part of the business by helping find runs for them. I have been on the internet and there is a lot to soak up. Is there anyway you can help me to start my career as a broker agent. Right now I am a salesman for a brokerage company and all they want me to do is to keep bringing client and from there they will broker out. The problem here is that I feel that they are taking my clients. It doesnt matter if I have to pay you but, I would like some coaching or some kind of a mentol. i have everything set up and like you i started on my own no training. but i have one problem with the rate calculations. i am not getting customers because the rate i am quoting are way to high. by about .50- 1.00 and thye won't do business with me. i am not sure what to do about this. no one ever taught me how to do a rate calculation to quote for them. what is the method for a rate? thank you. dodsonrw1980@live.com or <Edited by Host: contact info removed> randy. any help would be great. i need it.

I really don't think that there is an equation. Too many factors weigh into a rate quote. Examples: truck availability,commodity,where the pickup and destination are,whether there are any extras like lumper,tarping or anything else special. I know I missed some but you get the point. Ask truckers, what rate would they move a load for(give them details of the load) Also, see if you can get your hand on a tariff. good luck

He worked for companies for about 10 years and then he became an Owner/Operator He contracts for PaperTrans for the last 6 years. Hi Terry, I really want to get into this biz. I have 16yrs accounting and 1.5yrs of over the road truck driving. I purchase a broker agent course online and have found it totally useless. I've been trying to get hired on with brokers, but no one is willing to allow me to come on board without clients. It's a catch 22. Thanks in advance for your help. Victoria
